Here are a couple great beach projects from Sand & Sea you can take home with you…

Seashell Sailboat
Seashell sailboats are a fun craft for kids to make. Find a medium to large clam shell, rinse and let dry. Pick up a twig or stick from the beach, no longer than 6 inches long. Cut a sail out of plastic, which can be from a tablecloth or a trash bag. Trim a few openings in the plastic that will allow the mast (twig) to weave through. Weave the twig through the plastic. Place a small amount of clay into the bottom of the shell hull and then stick the twig into the clay. Set the seashell sailboat aside and let dry.

Seashell Jar
Gather rocks, small pieces of driftwood, shells and even beach glass. Fill a canning jar with a layer of sand and place the larger discoveries such as driftwood and rocks into the sand. Add more sand before dropping seashells and beach glass into the jar. Tightly seal the jar with a lid. Parents can stand the jar in a cooking pot filled with boiling water (this will remove all algae). Let the jar simmer for 15 minutes before removing and let cool.

Picture Shell
Find a large clam shell on the beach. The shell will need to be big enough to fit a photo inside, although the photo can be cut with scissors to fit accordingly. Brush the entire outside of the shell with clear fingernail polish. Once it is dry, trim a photo for size and place the photo inside the clam shell with glue or adhesive. Let the glue dry before brushing the inside of the clam shell with clear fingernail polish to keep the photo secure.

Wind Chimes
Collect a few of handfuls of attractive shells. The shells that are still attached (for example, a clam shell) will work best for this craft. Using a nut pick, gently make a hole in each shell. Loop each of the shells with fishing line and tie onto a clothes hanger. Dangle some shells lower than others for variety. Be sure the lines of shells are hanging closely to one another so they can clink together to produce a pleasant melody.

BEACH GAMES
Castle battles, Conquering Castles
Two groups are made. Each group builds a castle about 20 feet apart from each other. In each castle a flag (towel) is flown. On your mark… get set… go… Which group can get the others flag and fly it in their own castle first? Note: all kids have a flag in their back pocket. If your flag is captured you’re in jail until your team frees you!
Piranhas on Dry Land
Everyone for themselves! A bandana or a plastic bag is tucked in the back of the player’s swim suits. In a confined area the players must “live” as long as possible while trying to get the other players bandanas.
Push the Ball
Using only your nose or head race the other team pushing a tennis ball across the sand!
Long Jump
Race against the clock and another team on an Olympic obstacle course in the sand. The final challenge is a classic long jump!
Frisbee Goal Throw
Compete against another team to hit the targets. Each target is worth a different amount of points and each turn is an opportunity to get more points for your team!
Shell Balancing Relay Race!
With a shell balanced on the players forehead he/she must run from one end of the course to the other and give his shell to the next player!
Clothing Relay/ Penguin Race
The first player puts on a wetsuit, fins and goggles and races to his teammate on the other end of the course. Quick the other team’s close behind! Hand the gear over to your partner and it’s their turn to race across the finish line!
Burry a Friend
How long does it take to completely cover a person laying on the sand??
Circle ball
Each team holds hands making a circle. The coach places a ball inside the circle. While staying as a unit the team must move the ball to the other team’s goal. Remember, it’s a race but if you lose grip of your teammates hands your team goes back to the starting line!
Last but not least: flag football and kickball!!

Palisades is a great location to learn to surf. The bottom contour, which is all sand and free of rocks, gives us a very user-friendly environment for us to run our Surf Camp and Surf Lessons.

Our Sand & Sea Camp in the Palisades is a top location for us and has been one of our most successful Surf/Beach Camps in Los Angeles. Another plus about the Palisades is we have had the widest age ranges of all our camps; this creates a really sound social structure for our campers. Being in a solid peer group allows kids to participate in a wide range of activities with other kids their age, which in turn, makes for a much more pleasurable experience.

Our teen camp also features an option for our campers to become First Aid and CPR Certified by the American Red Cross. The feedback on our Palisades Camp has been outstanding and we look forward to another great season – See you at the beach!!
